The Curvy Fashionista Anniversary event: I love you!

There are some people in the fashion world that have an 'never-ending' influence on me- The Curvy Fashionista is one of them. Not only am I one of the many great editors/contributors of The Curvy but the true fashionista herself is one of my greatest role models and supporters. I met Marie a few years ago during a fashion show at the Beverly Center ( possibly during FNOLA).

Thank God I squeezed in a front row seat right next to this woman. From this point on our friendship has been full of support and love. From my run-around with VOGUE to advice on boys, Marie is there ( much like a big sister)

I love you & I am looking forward to witnessing all of the blessings and success God has for you!

Its official! BlackBook Magazine, Uptown and VIBE owners have merged under one roof. I wasn't sure what was going on at first but after our savvvy shoot yesterday with BlackBook NY, I am more than on top of the scoop. I am very excited to be working more closely with both Uptown and BB.

Yesterday VIBE helped BlackBook on their shoot at Smashbox Studios with a cast member of "Mad Men". I have never seen a set like the one created on set-with a nature inspired aesthetic, the set was full of sand, fake mountains and trees.

I honestly never would have dreamt of all of the amazing things that came to life in 2011.I am overwhelmed with happiness-my friends and I brought in the new year together,for once. Last year I spent NYE with my ex-boyfriend ( *throws up*). Despite all of the struggles and complications had in 2011, when I look back on all that my friends,family and myself accomplished, I think it is nothing short of a miracle.

From working my way to Teen Vogue in NYC to flying around with VOGUE in LA, it is all a blessing. I'm not really into making NYE resolutions ( because we never really keep them anyway) but I am into making progress.I pray to grow even stronger in 2012.With my amazing friends and family by my side, I hope to laugh more,dance more and cry less.

VIBE New York & VIBE LA hosted a Mix master session with Hyundai downtown Los Angeles. The VIBE Ipad app is amazzzinngg! Literally you can become our own DJ-its that easy.It looks something like this:

DJ Kiss sampled all of the instruments step by step for us.By the end of the session we were all 'jamming'!Too bad I don't have a ipad 8/.

I attended Nick Cannons' N'credible 'Toys for Tots' event in collaboration with CH Magazine & Angela/Vanessa Simmons ( Pastry.!I was so surprised and happy to see all of the celebs who came to support!Skating & eating cupcakes for a cause has never felt better!

Most importantly, It was great seeing my old team at Nick Cannons Mag, CH Magazine.They helped me develop my growth and leadership skills as a entertainment/lifestyle Journalist and I am forever appreciative!

I met celebrity make-up artist Nakeah Fuller when I was assisting on a shoot over the summer. Since then we have been inseparable. She is an all-around professional. Fuller owns All About Face Academy downtown Los Angeles and also has her own makeup line, Nakeah Cosmetics. I leaped for the opportuniuty when asked to be apart of her beauty team!

Last week Nakeah hosted a private Holiday party at her beauty lounge on Melrose.We are planning a few awesome projects for the new year- keep a look out 0_0!

Hey loves! I know- I am not the greatest at updating my weblog. So sorry! You will be happy to know that all of the time spent 'not updating' did not go straight to the trashcan. I have been in talks with MTV in regards to some upcoming projects as well as a few entertainment fashion sites( cross your fingers!). Loves! In the mist of covering events for LA Fashion Week ( Vibe Magazine/The Curvy Fashionista),Tora Bedgood, an amazing Music Journalist hosted a pre-bday party at Rush Lounge!Can you say ..'FUN'? Also one of my very best girlfriends, I made it my personal duty to make her day as amazing as possible. Needless to say, I missed a few events on this day in return.

Despite the flexible definition of 'friendship' and the many careless ways it is tossed around nowadays, I can truly say that this woman is my 'real' friend.We met a little over a year ago when I was assisting on a shoot for Angela Simmons. I suppose you can say it was 'love at first sight'?

Fashion Exhibit: Coming to life!

The past year I have been working with Woodbury Universities Fashion Exhibit which holds some of the most beautiful historic pieces I have ever seen ( In my lifetime). From YSL to Courreges, I am always blown away by the taste and aesthetic of the designer brands we hold.Since this past summer, we have been preparing for this years Fall exhibit- with a theme of geometric shapes and beauty.

Aside from trying to change the world one fashion article at a time, I also enjoy going to school.So.. for the last 3 1/2 years I have been attending Woodbury University with a focus in Communications and Fashion.

The best part about school is it's social construct in a classroom: you never really know what you're going to get ( Life is like..a box of chocolate?). In this particular case 'you never know what your going to get when putting a Power 106 fashionista (Jess) and a Vogue inherited Journalist ( That would be me) in a Social Media class...together.'

The outcome? We "Get Social". Basically, although extremely long, this course is doing wonders for my communication strategies and social media love affairs.

Hollywood runs into.. Malibu?

The last few weeks have been a combination of Toronto Fashion Week madness and publication hopping. This weekend I covered the Miss Malibu 2012 crowning event which included my love Kristina G. from E! News, Aubrey O'day, OK Magazine and a host of other influential individuals and artists.

Aside from the fact that it was freezing cold, the ceremony was very beautiful. Held on what seemed to be the highest mountain in Malibu, the view was extraordinary!

This year I kicked off FNOLA with a different tune. Usually I cover the major shows at the Beverly Center each year then swing my pencil by other small events for a publication or two. This year, since I have been working with some pretty cool designers & boutiques, I decided to arrange my very own Fashion Night Out event with American Vintage and celebs. American Vintage and myself partnered in the collaboration for the "Adopt a Retailer" sector of FNO. Hosted by my partner, Sam Sarpong, the night was full of fashion savvy friends,professionals,models,celebrities and chic shoppers! The event consisted of a runway show (brought on mostly by American Vintage Manager,Sergio Jospeh) ,DJ,dancing and drinks.

I wasn't able to hit any other spots but I was told this year retailers really "did-it-up" ! What do you think? Inside scoop please!?

This past weekend a few of my fashion friends and I got together and tried to be as unproductive as possible.It didn't work. The day went by full of sushi,girl talk and clothes.Speaking of clothes, an unorganized shoot followed the process of looking through my closet and my friends "must-haves". I think many industry professionals can relate to this post. One of my favorite blogs,"Bleed for Fashion", posted a comment on subject of the difference of being 'alone' and 'lonely'. In the commentary she reiterates the significance of loving..yourself.I am not a advocate of many blogs- I can say that this Vancouver native brings much more light to the world of art than anticipated.

Dear world,

I know-the lack of posting may have denied me any further access into your website roll.I understand.I have been extremely busy planning Vogue FNOLA event with American Vintage and making sure my partner, Sarpong,keeps his head above the waves while in London town (UK tour).

As of now I am in the process of planning a few more shoots and have decided to try to bring out the beauty of my senior year at Woodbury University (cough) and embrace..debt once again.With 18 units and the same amount of career avenues to walk down daily, somehow, it is flowing quite well.

Yes- The Kardashians have done it again. I know. Crazy right? Aside from newlywed Kim K being the face of Hollywood royalty, the Kardashian klan have snuck back up on the fashion scene yet again and I was there to witness it all. Beautiful event. Dear World,

I have been in constant motion the last ...three years. Since my contract with Vogue came to an end last month, I have picked up speed in every other area that was lacking prior. I haven't had any time to rest or..be "21"! ( shhh). With that being said our team decided to just..go out and have a relaxing night at The Cabana Club. After a busy day on set myself and Edgar Anthony, one of most amazing make-up artists I know, decided to surprise celebrity stylist Mr.Bradshaw at his new showroom downtown LA. Fashion party anyone? What I thought would be a quick "Hi and goodbye" turned into a " OMG, I NEED THAT" appointment. Clever Mr. Bradshaw lured me in with, of course, the new Chanel belt. I cried when I had to depart from it but was at ease knowing everything in his showroom is completely rentable and at a very reasonable price.

We have struck gold.When my management company that I work with, Artist International management,discovered Sasha Gerecht, famous German designer and celebrity DJ, all was well in the world once again.Combining a mixture of European street edge and 'bad boy meets biker boy' persona's, Rockstars & Angels is the epitome of much of what Sam Sarpong stands for. Once again, taking charge of the set up of the shoot, I decided this time to be my own caterer and bring my own health driven snacks to avoid the 'pass out and go home' disease that always sneaks up on me.

The opening of the NYC Film Festival private screening was held yesterday at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles. One of my many amazing partners, Sam Sarpong, was the lead in the award winning film, Anchor Baby.With a crowd that overwhelmed both him and I, the night was set out with high hopes. The only irritating factor was the noise- Too many people and not enough speakers.Overall, with the exception of a bit of red carpet drama, my team was very happy.

Aside from the high rise celebrities that showcased their faces, I had some of the most influential bloggers,designers and fashion savvy professionals come by!

Because this industry can be a self-driven blood sucker, joining the fashion cult at a young age can be very risky. It becomes even more test appealing if entering head first with no morals or values to back up your determination. Before I finished my contract with Vogue Magazine I did one of my most cherished interviews with Jammie Chasteen, creator of Jesus Couture clothing and blog. Laying down the inside 'personals' on my most honest ideas of fashion,art and the fast life, I realized how very important it is to share stories similar to mine for fashionistas/fashionistos that may have (most likely) perceived it differently.

It is important,with everything you do, to make certain you are doing it for all the right reasons( not just because it looks cool). I think that is apart of the problem- many pursue creative careers without understanding it's history,significance and ugly side.In hopes of adding clarity to the "fashion is a trend" epidemic, I 'let it all hang out' on JC.

Basically I have been working my butt off the last 5 days planning a VIP event for American Vintage & my team. I have been shopping & pulling from there for a while now-they are in some of LA's hottest locations (including Melrose).Carrying amazing pieces that date from the mid 50's to the 90's, American Vintage will definitely give you a fashion spasm. They just opened up a Westwood store in Westwood Village by the famous Fox Theatre.

The event was more amazing than I could have imagined. We had more celebs and fashion professionals show than expected ( Thank God). Most importantly, the owners of American Vintage were very pleased ( now I can breathe). As I slowly find a way back to 'normal life' ( by that I mean..sleep and eat), please enjoy the 'bootleg' flicks taken by..someone who had my camera all dam night!

Planet Africa Magazine: Romanticism at it's finest

In an attempt to widen my horizons, I branched off into styling a few years ago and..I'm assuming I'm not too bad at it . I was asked to style a very romantic shoot based off of an editorial in Uptown Magazine,09. With a full days worth of work in a 100 degree condo and a great support team that kept shoving food in my mouth, the shoot turned out even more amazing than my story boards could have projected. My best friend got all of the behind the scene scoop while I focused on not passing out!

The event: Gsus Sindustries red carpet launch event

The campaign shoot could not have prepared me for what was to come with the event. I missed a weeks worth of sleep with over 400 guests prepared to attend the extravaganza and only 5 gloomy days to prep.The event turned out amazing and the official campaign was presented during the event along with celebrity videos.I could not have been more happy to see all of our hard work streaming through the Cafe Entourage venue.Aside from the fact that I was misinterpreted for about 3 or 4 very demanding job titles ( yet still took on the persona/responsibility of all 4) staying calm and collected was my main goal.One minute I had managers coming to me giving me talent lists to then walk down the red carpet and the next minute I was doing interviews and checking for VIP tables.

Lets just say..at the end of the night..everyone was left happy!

In great efforts to decrease my 'OCD' tendencies I tried to make certain that this photo shoot went according to planned weeks ahead of time. I am constantly being reminded of how unpredictable and important 'thinking on your toes' can be during 'shoot chaos'.Thankfully I came prepared ( extra lent rollers,clips,body garments ect). Gsus Sindustries, who is preparing for their US launch, allowed my team to pull very retro yet chic items which made my love for this chaotic world even stronger (to say the least). After everything came together all I could do was..EAT!
